Cassandra Sohn is a freelance photographer, originally from Santa Fe, New Mexico. She recently moved from New York City to the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts, but her career and love of travel take her all over the globe. She is also a journalist, teacher and print maker.
At a young age, Sohn experimented with drawing, painting and sculpture. She studied many mediums throughout her life, and discovered an immense passion for photography in her early twenties. Her travels and background in the arts play an enormous role in her photographic process. These explorations help her open many doors to awareness, compassion and community.
In her fine art work, Sohn presents a query between what we actually see, and how our internal environments influence how we perceive things. Abstract landscapes, movement and blur contribute to the question of what object, identity and place truly are. Sohn captures the way we can see moments in our own life - not entirely clear, and often with our past and future attached to our perception.
Sohn graduated from the New School in Manhattan with a Bachelor of Arts in English and Photography. She was the main contributing photographer in the recently released book, Window On The Park - New York's Most Prestigious Properties On Central Park, published by Images Publishing. In the last year, she exhibited with Tappan Z Gallery in Tarrytown, NY; the Ferrin Gallery in Pittsfield, MA; Canyon Ranch and Karendipity in Lenox, MA; Dream Studios and Gallery in Chelsea, Manhattan and the Zenith House - Devon Artist Network in Exeter, England.
Sohn has worked for a variety of clientele, including Berkshire Living Magazine, Travelraters, Images Publishing and the nonprofit City Harvest.
She has written for News Photographer Magazine and photographed and written for the Berkshire Record Newspaper. Sohn teaches photography at IS183 Art School in Stockbridge, MA, and at Berkshire Community College in Great Barrington, MA. Her new company, "Sohn Fine Art - Gallery and Giclee Printing" launched in 2011. Visit the website www.sohnfineart.com to learn more.
